In a first for New Zealand, we have introduced Havwood’s Hand Grade flooring – the first Cradle to Cradle Certified™ wood flooring in the market.
Hand Grade is a high-quality, high-performance, pre-finished engineered board. The sheer size of these planks sets Hand Grade apart in terms of style – the extra-wide boards are almost half a metre across and up to four metres long. Hand Grade offers a luxury finish for residential and commercial installations and is both Bronze Cradle to Cradle Certified™ and FSC® Certified.
The range has eight distinctive finishes to ensure a perfect fit for a wide range of flooring projects – from the blackened hue of Consul to the rich, warm tones of Galway. There are two surface options: a plank with micro-bevelled edges and a smooth sanded appearance, or a sculpted, rounded-edge board with a textured and highly characterful appearance.
Both options showcase the natural beauty, colour variations and grains of the timber surface, resulting in a floor covering that is as striking as it is practical. The extra-large planks are finished with Hardwax oil to help create a more durable and resistant surface. These oils are also microporous and water repellent, protecting the wood while also enhancing the beauty of its natural characteristics.
This is the first Bronze Cradle to Cradle Certified™ flooring timber to be sold in New Zealand. The Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard guides designers and manufacturers through a continual improvement process that looks at a product through five quality categories – material health, material reutilisation, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.
Featuring a triple-layered construction, the 19mm-thick plank is made up of a nominal 6mm wear layer of European oak, WBP birch ply core and European oak base. Made in a European mill, the oak lamella is bonded under no less than 150 tonnes of pressure to the ply core. The moisture content is well controlled, and the boards engineered to strict machining standards, and the entire collection is suitable for use over underfloor heating.
