Design Day /17: Talking Designer Walls over Wine & Beer
Design Day Pro is a major annual event for our industry. With over 500 design professionals touring top Auckland showrooms, they come to be inspired by the latest products and innovations, and to network with friends and colleagues.
With our permanent Parnell showroom opening in early June, Design Day Pro was an unmissable opportunity to let people know we were moving to the neighbourhood. We partnered with Harrows contract furniture, and turned an amazing industrial space on St Georges Bay Road into a Pop-Up Studio and hospitality venue.
2017 was the first time we have exhibited at the event, and we wanted to do it in style. With a gourmet spread, stylish space and product experience, we became the second most visited showroom of this exclusive event. Architects and designers from around New Zealand were engaged, relaxed and took their time to explore our collections. With all the buzz, we hosted over 300 people over the event, and were happily run off our feet talking design, installation and the future of wall linings.
Design Day Pro was all about meeting our clients face-to-face and demonstrating quality and attention to detail – both in our products and our service level. We create and curate a unique collection of designer wall coverings, and this was demonstrated in the product display and the quarterly edition of The Vida Book.
Our custom-built black display cabinets – designed by Pennant and Triumph – were of particular interest to architects and designers. With minimal labels and distractions, individual drawers allow each product to be viewed in a clutter-free environment. Our guests enjoyed this quieter appreciation and discussion, as they took the time to pull out each drawer. We know how much time and care goes into good design, so we present our collection in a clear and intuitive system to make selection easier and more enjoyable.
The VidaSpace Workshop
One of the highlights of the day was the chance to discuss products in development. On the upper floor of the space, we set up a gallery of new and prototype wall panels that we invited market feedback on. This led to some in-depth discussions and valuable insights, and will feed into our product development over the next 12 months. Our role is to bring the best in designer walls to the local market, and to meet New Zealand’s unique market needs. By having first-hand input into this process, we can better serve our designers and specifiers.
“I think you guys did really well with your space. I heard some really good comments about the display cabinets, and I was really impressed with the new product innovations you showcased in The VidaSpace Workshop. It was great to be involved in the process of product development. You are creating a real disruption to the traditional model.” Andrew Hayward, Project Design International.
