Revitalising a 200 year old department store means carefully balancing a sense of longevity with the clean, modern aesthetics which shoppers demand.
As part of a £15m investment, De Gruchy, part of the independent department store group Ulster stores, appointed Caulder Moore to help re-establish the store as Jersey’s premier destination for fashion, beauty and accessories.

The layout was reconfigured and structural changes even included moving the escalators to the middle of the store. A theme of ‘timeless elegance’ integrated De Gruchy’s signature pattern with the best of the building’s architectural features and contemporary metal and glass fixtures and fittings.
Caulder Moore wanted a white wood floor to complement the amazing restored corniced ceiling and contribute to the airy first floor space. Clearly this was a demanding choice for such a high footfall application, but the clients had faith in Havwoods’ recommendations after having fitted Venture plank Amendo in their earlier ground floor refurbishment.
