Subfloor Problems

Modern subfloors can be constructed in a wide range of materials, from concrete and plywood to timber and chipboard. Each presents its own challenges when it comes to securing the selected flooring, but you can rest assured that each has a simple and effective solution at VidaSpace with our Marldon range of accessories. We have produced a simple guide to outline suggested solutions.

Example: Fitting a timber floor over an anhydrite screed (without underfloor heating)

  1. Timber Floor
    Refer to Manufacturer for compatibility.
  2. MXA200 Adhesive
This should be trowelled out using the Marldon 3mm or 4mm notched trowel with a coverage of approx. 1KG/sq metre.
  3. MXS140 Damp Proof Membrane
This should be applied by either a roller or poured into ribbons along the surface and trowelled out using a 4mm trowel with a coverage of approx 12.5 – 15 sq metres / 4 litre unit. * The MXS140 will isolate moisture up to 97% RH.

Sound Reduction

Whether you want peace and quiet between floors, or are protecting confidential conversations from prying ears, the acoustic treatment of floors can make a huge difference to the way sound travels.

The revolutionary Marldon StrataBase system is a complete floor build-up achieving up to 49dB sound reduction, resulting in a low-profile solution, and is compatible with underfloor heating. The system provides vital acoustic damping under a wide range of hard floor finishes without adding significantly to the overall thickness of the floor covering.

Example 1: Fitting a timber floor over Strata sound reducing underlay over a concrete subfloor

  1. Timber Floor
    Refer to Manufacturer for compatibility.
  2. MXA200 Adhesive
This should be trowelled out using the Marldon 3mm or 4mm notched trowel with a coverage of approx. 1KG/sq metre.
  3. Strata Underlay

  4. MXA200 Adhesive
    Repeat Step 2.

Example 2: Fitting a timber floor over Strata sound reducing underlay over underfloor heating

  1. Timber Floor

  2. MXA200 Adhesive
This should be trowelled out using the Marldon 3mm or 4mm notched trowel with a coverage of approx. 1KG/sq metre.
  3. Strata Underlay
Please refer to seperate data sheet for further information regarding this product and application.
  4. MXA200 Adhesive

Damp Subfloors

Marldon damp-proof membrane (DPM) solutions can be laid as soon as 14 days after concrete has been poured, shaving weeks off the build schedule whilst still providing complete protection for timber and other flooring.

Example: Fitting a timber floor over a damp concrete subfloor

  1. Timber Floor
    Refer to Manufacturer for compatibility.
  2. MXA200 Adhesive
This should be trowelled out using the Marldon 3mmor 4mm notched trowel with a coverage of approx.1kg/sq metre.
