The new Westgate headquarters for wine exporter Constellation Brands NZ celebrates the rustic and industrial charm of their industry with reclaimed oak, brick, copper and green walls.
Interior designer Nicole Wilson of Catalyst Consulting says the company has celebrated its roots by echoing materials and textures from its wineries. With brands such as Selaks, Kim Crawford, Nobilo and Drylands, the Constellation Brands offices are in West Auckland’s wine country, from which they manage the export and business side of their many vineyards.
“The new interior had to have a clear visual link with the winery settings,” says Nicole, “so we used a lot of materials associated with that industry – natural, raw products, a bit industrial, such as wood and copper.”
One of the design focus areas is the bar. VidaSpace’s textured TRIKBRIK Urban Brick Aged White panels create a textured backdrop for a dark, smooth brown wine cabinet and bar top, a copper-tiled bar front, and a column and leaner clad in VidaSpace’s OUTLAND Genuine Reclaimed Barn Oak.
The Reclaimed Barn Oak is then continued in two meeting rooms and an office as a rustic feature wall, in rich contrast to modern beam lights and aluminium and black boardroom chairs. A live moss wall in the corridor outside adds to the richness of these details and the storytelling devices of the design.
“We added layers to the concrete floors, copper and leather with the Reclaimed Barn Oak to give us that rustic, worn element,” says Nicole. “Everyone loves the character timber and natural tones. It feels like you’re connected with the wineries.”
